90. The Town

In the name of God, the All Gracious, the All Merciful

 

 

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

                                        لا أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ

I swear by this town-

                                      وَأَنْتَ حِلٌّ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ

-and you a resident of this town,-

                                          وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ

-and the parent and child.

 

6025 3282 652 555 4

                               لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الإنْسَنَ فِي كَبَدٍ

We have certainly created the human being to go through hardship.

                          أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَنْ يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ

Does he think that no one has any power over him?

 

6027 3284 654 557  6

                                  يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالا لُبَدًا

He boasts that I have spent so much money.

 

6028 3285 655 558 1633 7

                                              أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ

Does he think that no one can see him?

 

6029 3286 656 559 8

                                       أَلَمْ نَجْعَلْ لَهُ عَيْنَيْنِ

Did We not create for him two eyes-

 

6030 3287 657 560 9

                                          وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ

-and a tongue, and two lips-

 

6031 3288 658 561 10

                                        وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ

-and showed him the two paths?

 

6032 3289 659 562 1634 11

                                        فَلا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ

He should therefore choose the difficult one.

 

6033 3290 660 563 12

                                      وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ

And do you know what the difficult one is?

                                                 فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ

Freeing the slaves.

 

6035 3292 662 565 14

                            أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ

Or feeding someone even during hard times,- 

 

6036 3293 663 566 15

                                           يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ

-an orphan who is close by,-

 

6037 3294 664 567 16

                                      أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ

-or the needy who is homeless,- 

 

6038 3295 665 568 1636 17

     ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ

-then being one of those who believes, and enjoins others to patience, and enjoins others to kindness.

                                 أُولَئِكَ أَصْحَبُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ

These will be the dwellers of the bliss.

              وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَبُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ

As for those who disbelieve in Our signs, they will be the dwellers of the misery.

 

6041 3298 668 571 20

                                      عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤْصَدَةٌ

They will be surrounded by Fire.
